Grace

Soul Perspective and Nourishment

Chapter excerpt from Soul Searching with Djwhal Khul, the Tibetan by Moriah Marston ©2002

With time and life lessons speeding up and intensifying, we need all the help we can get.  This brings me to an exploration of Grace.  Djwhal Khul often reminds me to open to the Grace.  The moment that I hear the world “Grace,” I relax, feeling safe and warm inside. I, like many people, often feel that I have to struggle with life, doing battle with all the internal and external opposition.  I mistakenly believe that it is only will and determination that will get me through life’s challenges.  It is not in my karmic programming to consider that there may be “freebies” available. My belief system states that, “Life is difficult.  Everything has to be earned.  One has to work hard for one’s progress.  One has to toil away at one’s accomplishments in order to be worthy of them.  You can’t get something for nothing.  There are no free rides.”  This makes for a “nose to the grindstone” reality.  Always toiling at my enlightenment, I am forever chipping away at the blockages that seem to prevent me from true liberation. While I appreciate the need to be willing to apply myself 100% to the alignment process, I wonder if I have been using the most potent mix of ingredients for my alchemization.  Somewhere along the line I have forgotten perhaps the most important catalytic agent in my transformation process.  This is the element of Grace.

Are you truly generous?  Or, do you give yourself and others “just enough”—not a scrap more? Do attempts to be frugal make you tightfisted?  Where do you stand on the polarity of generosity vs. stinginess?Fear of scarcity makes us stingy.  So we scrimp through life, not only pinching pennies but also weighing how much love, enjoyment, reward, free time, pleasure, relaxation, personal space and attention to give ourselves, as if these were extras in life and not the main meal.  We believe: “I couldn’t possibly give that to myself—or I’d have to really earn it by depriving myself in other ways.”  Must our self-generosity be balanced by deprivation?  We’re so afraid of getting carried away.   Strictness with ourselves, which also affects others, reflects fear of losing control of our wants/hungers. Convinced that generosity is dangerous, we dole out life in a measured fashion that eventually becomes iron fisted. We assume that generosity might drain our resources. Actually, it’s enlivening.
